8 “If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting fire.
No Jesus is not telling you to literally cut off your hands and feet as He is just making very good points about your eternal destination when you die. He is saying, it is better to go through life struggling with an illness, or struggling with family members, or some sort of physical ailment and live eternally with Him in Heaven than to go through life perfectly healthy with no other issues and go to Hell and be eternally separated from Him.
You see sometimes those very things you struggle with are the very things that draw you to Jesus. For instances, say you were living from check to check and can barely scrape up enough money to feed your family. You might be praying to God every night to increase your income so that you can take care of your family. Well, God knows that you struggle with money and that if He blesses you, you would put your faith in your income and not Him, thus stop praying and communicating with Him. Then the slow fade comes. You stop taking your family to church, you get your kids involved in all activities, your wife gets neglected because of your work and activity schedule. She finds comfort in another man, you find alcohol to wash your sorrows away. Pretty soon, devastation has taken place in your life.
It would have been better to put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ and go through life poor and hunger than to put your trust in your wealth, living what seems like a great life, only to lose it all at the end. Worse yet, Satan would have succeeded and claimed another soul with him in Hell.
No matter the situation, Jesus knows what is best for you. Be content with whatever God has provided for you. Nothing in this world is worth your soul being eternally separated from God. Nothing!
